Women's Veil and Unveil

In her piece, Women's Veil and Unveil, Afsaneh Najmabadi likens the expectation that women wear the veil to the required beard, shaved head, and hat that men wear. When Iranians chose to 'modernize,' some of these practices were rejected. However, at first, men were regarded with esteem at their Europeanization and becoming a farangi'ma'ab. Women were always necessarily frowned upon for their transition to unveiling. How different are the ways in which men and women in iran 'modernized?' How alike were they?
