I wanted to respond to Kayla's post, because I thought it was a pretty provocative question.  It's interesting to look at parallels between white-black relationships and male-female relationships.  I feel as if there are many overlaps between the experiences of blacks and women, but I think that is because both groups are being affected by the same entity -- the white man.  It makes sense that some experiences of subordination are shared by both...  It's the approach/mentality that the white man brings to the table that dictates others respond -- if the white man comes in thinking that he the best and everyone should adhere, everyone else has to adjust.  Simone de Beauvoir would probably ignore the differences -- there wasn't really any acknowledgment of the non-white experience...yet if she thought about it she would probably agree.
